HG's Motebacane broke at the downtube after a year of Serious Deutsch Tourque. Did he get a new frame? No, he got a brand new complete 2011... WTF? Rest in peace LBS. I can't wrap my mind around that. I'll be at my LBS spending the mortgage on bike parts.
Throw that thing on eBay and buy a snow bike! It's the new rage this winter. Actually that would work well as a snow bike if you put some fatter tires on it....hmmmmmm. Maybe I can just convert an old beater hardtail to a snow bike????
Oddly that funky looking bike is a sleeper in disguise, it rides amazingly well, and with the welded wire spokes you can fly through rock gardens and hop off the obstacles...I tried to break the frame bombing GL6, really, it held up so far,
The LBS should be happy as I spent probably the original bike price on parts and repairs, modification to single speed etc and would not have had a bike to spend on as I could not afford a similar bike at 2x the price form a LBS.
And no doubt the perfect winter ride. Their warranty is unheard of! Not to mention the value. There really is not much threat to the LBS. Someone has to work on it an replace the worn out parts!
